Half-Way, But Inconsistent

The inconsistencies of Coleshill Town continued over the Christmas holiday. Their steady improvement which has given them a respectable half-way placing in the First Division of the Midland Combination was marked by a fine 3-1 away victory over Mile Oak Rovers, on Boxing Day.

COLESHILL TAKE LOCAL DERBY HONOURS AND POINTS

Mile Oak were made to pay for poor finishing and slack defensive play by neighbours Coleshill on Boxing morning. On a pitch made treacherous by heavy rain and frost, Oak played well but lost 3-1 and conceded two more Midland Combination points. Oak had to recover from the early shock of going a goal down in the tenth minute when Coleshill forward Peter Dawkins cashed in on slack marking to head the visitors in front. Despite coming back strongly from this early reverse, Oak went into the interval a goal down. The home side started the second period at a blistering pace and on three occasions had chances to score. The turning point came 14 minutes into the half when a goal bound shot from Alan Shilton struck Hughes and bounced harmlessly away. Coleshill's answer to this was swift and decisive. Fel Nardiello, brother of Coventry City's star Dom, converted Conway's cross for the second goal. With Oak throwing everything forward the way was left clear for Paul Montague to net the third goal. Star striker Alan Shilton scored a late consolation goal for Mile Oak but by then the points were gone.
