Coleshill Get Away With It
This was a difficult match to summarise. The good parts were few and far between and the best can only be described as mediocre. Starkey worked tirelessly to infuse some life and movement into Coleshill's attacks, but his efforts were wasted and the homesters never threatened Hook in the visitors goal. Cinderford, although enjoying most of the play rarely troubled Coleshill's keeper Steve Raybould, and when they did they found the young lad in excellent form. Raybould, along with brothers Mick and Harry Burrows and Colin Davies, after a shaky start, kept Cinderford's forwards under tight control. It had to be set pieces that brought the goals, Harry Burrows heading home a Dawkins corner for Coleshill after 15 minutes and Mayo doing likewise for Cinderford a minute into the second half. The Cinderford defence had only conceded 19 goals in 24 matches and one could be excused for thinking that with this knowledge Coleshill might have had better ideas that trying to beat the aerial dominance of Hatton and Young, who both strolled through the encounter. In the final two minutes Hill, breaking into Coleshill's penalty area, was brought down and from the resultant spot kick Stewart shot wide, a let off for Coleshill, but a fitting end to a drab game. Coleshill's Manager David Kite said, "We did not play well against Cinderford, although in the first half I thought we had the edge with Snowy Upton coming back into the side, injecting more open play on the wing. Unfortunately we stopped using the width in the second half and play deteriorated, ending with us being lucky to get away with a last minute penalty." Manager Kite was pleased however with the performance of his latest signing central defender Mick Burrows and said "I am sure he will prove to be a big asset." The Coleshill boss is considering changes for the visit to Highgate this Saturday. He has put in seven days notice of approach for Moor Green's reserve striker Barry Canning and it could be that former Walsall apprentice Andrew Canning (no relation) will make his debut.
