Sweet Revenge For Happy Coleshill
Coleshill took partial revenge for their Midland Combination League Cup defeat by taking a point at the Forest Of Dean ground of Cinderford. They outplayed the home side for long periods and were generally the better team throughout. Coleshill threatened with some swift moves out of defence with the midfield trio of Casey, Ketterick and Conway taking control only to go down to a goal on the half hour. A free kick out on the right saw centre half Gough dive full length past Wright to score. Town started the second half where they had left off and with Conway pushing forward they forced Cinderford to defend desperately. High winds and the heavy surface made it difficult for the Coleshill front men to turn their advantage into goals. It came as no surprise however when they got the goal they richly deserved as a result of a free kick. Montague rose above the defence to beat the keeper with a good header. They stayed on the attack till the end of the game with Montague, Ketterick and Conway all going close to giving Coleshill a winner. It was a good all round performance in this pre-Christmas game with a welcome emphasis on attack which suited the players. With strong man Harry Burrows and left back Ray Hartry backed up by Martin McGreevey they are also well served in defence.

AWAY POINTS

The week the rains came, and Saturday's soccer programme was severely curtailed, owing to water-logged pitches. Both Coleshill Town and Chelmsley Town did survive. Coleshill made the long journey to Cinderford and claimed a deserved Midland Combination Division One point in a 1-1 draw. Newcomer George Pettrick impressed for Coleshill in midfield and it was from his cross that Paul Montague scored Town's goal. Although without the services of Allen, Hardie and Komoroski (all injured) Coleshill showed better form than in their two previous outings and Ray Hartry was outstanding at left back. Manager David Kite has signed former Bedworth United player Bob Starkey from Stockingford and also has snapped up Clark Francis from Birmingham College. Francis, however, will not be available until after Christmas. This Saturday Coleshill receive Walsall Sportsco at Pack Meadow and supporters are advised to check at the ground for kick off time, because Coleshill are hoping to bring the game forward so that they can complete arrangements for their Christmas Party-Dance being held in the evening. The Coleshill team will be chosen from: Wright, McGreavy, Hartry, Conway, Pettrick, Casey, Hardie, Allen, Nardiello, Dawkins, Montague P, Montague N, and Burrows. On Boxing Day, Coleshill visit Mile Oak Rovers and on Saturday December 29th play Mile Oak again at Pack Meadow.
