Moors Prove Their Point

Moor Green had something to prove to both manager Harry Shepherd and their supporters on Tuesday (28th August). Was their promising early season form a flash in the pan, or could they recover from the shock Home defeat by Cinderford Town? Unfortunately for Coleshll they received the backlash from the Moors still smarting from Saturday's defeat. Only poor finishing saved Coleshill from being at the wrong end of an embarrassing scoreline. Carlo Rossi put Moor Green ahead after a run down the right wing by McDermott who crossed for the striker to score. Numerous chances went begging as the Home side piled on the pressure, but they increased their lead soon after the interval. A short corner was taken on the left and swept over to the far post, where McDermott was on hand to leap above the Coleshill defence and send a bullet header into the far corner of the net. The third goal came once again from a McDermott break. He beat three men before lifting the ball across for Ray Howell to score. A delighted Harry Shepherd said, "We played some great football and should have won by a larger margin. The lads are back on song now, they were under pressure on Saturday to do well and one or two players did not pull their weight, but everything is straight now."

DEFEATED BY "MOORS"

Coleshill Town suffered a 3-0 defeat at the Moorlands on Tuesday evening when the more experienced "Moors" dictated matters throughout. Goalkeeper Alan Goulden made several fine saves to prevent Moor Green scoring more goals. This was the first time this season that Coleshill had conceded more than one goal, but they were handicapped by an injury to Peter Dawkins in the 20th minute which necessitated him being taken to hospital.

THREE TOWN PLAYERS BID FOR BIG TIME

Three of Coleshill Town's promising young players are having trials with Football League clubs this week. Russell Gordon and Colin Sarson are hoping to impress Coventry City while Andrew Foote will be having an outing with Luton Town. Coleshill's manager David Kite said "These players have shown great potential and they could easily make the grade in the big time." Signed on as a player at Pack Meadow is last season's manager Mervyn Parsons and two other signings this week are John Burrows, centre half, and "Snowy" Upton, forward, both from Coventry Colliery. Burrows was previously at V.S.Rugby and Racing Club Warwick.
